Federico Garcia Lorca (friend and contemporary of Pablo Neruda and Salvador Dali) is one of Spain’s most treasured playwrights. His most famous plays are known as the “earth trilogy” or “rural trilogy”, Bodas de Sangre (1933, Blood Wedding), Yerma (1934) and Le Casa de Bernarda Alba (1936, The House of Bernarda Alba).
Blood Wedding is a story of true love turned tragic because of traditional, oppressive social structures and family rivalry. It is a highly moving and beautifully written work.
