About This Show

Brava! for Women in the Arts presents the SF premiere of Laura’s Bush – A Political Satire, written by Jane Martin and directed by Dan Chumley.

An aging prostitute and her librarian conspire to kidnap Laura Bush. They uncover the reality that she is blinking “non-stop calls for help” in Morse code. Once liberated, Laura reveals that her husband was once a genius and was “dumbed down” for political purposes: (“In the fourth grade he had an I.Q. of 217. At 12, he became the only American to understand the Electoral College. He spoke 14 Texas dialects that no one could penetrate. He knew every joke written about a penguin walking into a bar”.) After a perilous journey from smart to dumb, a rigged election and a fall from grace, the Neo-Cons replaced Bush with Saddam Hussein’s castrated body double. (“He wasn’t fluent but they let him do a couple of speeches and found out that Americans didn’t care if their president could speak English.”) With appearances by an African American Bill Clinton, Condoleezza Rice, Colin Powell, and Hillary Clinton, Laura’s Bush will provide a stimulating “get out the vote” opportunity as well as an evening of entertaining, original, and provocative theater. Come and laugh your freedom-lovin’ butt off!
