Korczak’s Children

About the Show

Reminiscent of The Diary of Anne Frank and Schindler’s List, Jeffrey Hatcher’s Korczak’s Children is based on the diaries of Janusz Korczak, head of one of the most progressive orphanages in Europe during the first half of the 20th century. The play unfolds over a two-day period during the Nazi occupation of Warsaw. The war rages on outside, but inside his orphanage Korczak creates a world of beauty and grace for his children through theater and storytelling, helping them to transcend the unbearable circumstances of their reality.
