Brave Irene is a musical adaptation of the beloved book by William Steig, the creator of Shrek. The story follows the adventures of plucky Irene Bobbin as she courageously braves the winter weather to help her mother by delivering a new dress for the duchess’ ball. The California Theatre Center production features three actors who portray the elements Irene encounters on her journey — the wind, the cold, and the night. Each “elemental” has a solo in a different musical style, from a jazzy blues number performed by Mr. Cool to a beautiful and haunting ballad by the Mistress of the Night.
