Latino boxers vie for the middleweight championship. The vicious Wilfred Vinal rattles reigning champ Mantequilla by accusing him of being gay. Pedro Quinn battles with his memories, his identity, and his ambiguous relationship with his friend Garnet, a lounge singer who makes ends meet by impersonating Jackie Wilson. The sensual action of boxing and music burst through the brutality and prejudice of America in 1959. The multiple conflicts of love, cultural forces, athletic glory and humiliation culminate in a stunning fight to the end.
