San Francisco playwright-actor Rey Carolino stages his modern day re-telling of the famous children’s story in a one act play for people
of all ages. Bela, a bored teenager and frustrated entertainer agrees to have music lessons from a mysterious music teacher called the
Maestro. The Maestro was a talent agent called Harry who was transformed into a hideous monster by a disgruntled gypsy magician at a talent show where Harry was a judge and disapproved of the
magician’s performance. Now Harry spends his nights searching for a "great heart and a humble voice" which will free him of his curse.
Rounding out the story is Bela’s family and friends who all live in a downtown apartment building in which also Harry is the landlord.
