Sledgehammer’s first project at 10th and E is a reading of Tijuana Burlesque, written by legendary San Diego musician Francis Thumm. The music-theater piece is based loosely on Bizet’s classic opera, Carmen. Thumm’s play sets this timeless tragedy of passion, obsession and sexual politics in a maquiladora factory on the outskirts of Tijuana. This ambitious new work is accompanied by Thumm’s original score.
