This haunting, poetic and sophisticated new musical explores the many conflicts wrought by James Joyce’s unconventional life and relationship with his “muse” and lover Nora Barnacle, while celebrating his groundbreaking accomplishments as one of the most celebrated artists of the 20th century. Featuring music by Jonathan Brielle, book by Sheila Walsh, and lyrics by Jonathan Brielle and Sheila Walsh.
Himself and Nora follows Joyce through his life until he meets Nora Barnacle, through their journeys, exiles and tumultuous yet everlasting love. Brielle has written earthy, traditional musical numbers with a modern sound as well as fun and sexy poetic numbers with an orchestral sound that weave the play seamlessly from scene to song.
Directed by Joe Hardy and Jeff Calhoun under the artistic direction of Jack O’Brien. The cast features Matt Bogart as James Joyce and former Miss America Kate Shindle as Nora Barnacle.
