Based on Studs Terkel’s interviews with American workers, Working opened on Broadway in 1978. Twenty-three workers — including a parking lot attendant, corporate executive, newsboy, schoolteacher, gas man, housewife, fireman, waitress, millworker, sailor, and others — sing and talk about their jobs, defining not only their daily round, but their hopes and aspirations as well.
Ricki Lake, Camryn Manheim, Kathy Najimy, and others star in this staged reading. The musical is adapted by Stephen Schwartz and Nina Faso and features songs by Craig Carnelia, Micki Grant, Mary Rodgers and Susan Birkenhead, Stephen Schwartz and James Taylor.
