About This Show

"The Picture of Dorian Gray" is the Faustian story of the descent of a beautiful, but vain young man into an ever-widening vortex of sin and destruction. Banned in its initial incarnation for being immoral, Oscar Wilde’s novel, "The Picture of Dorian Gray", is a fascinatingly scary story, ultimately used against Wilde in his conviction for gross indecency with other men. Adapted for the stage by David John Preece, the story ponders the price to be paid when one pursues beauty to the exclusion of all else, and takes much of the ambiguity of the characters’ sexuality out of the story. Director Travis Terry takes us on a horrific journey through Dorian’s soul, as it turns from beautiful to grotesque.
