The Chinese Massacre (Annotated)

The Chinese Massacre (Annotated) By Tom Jacobson and Directed by Marya Mazor is Produced by Circle X Theatre Company. Based on historical incident, The Chinese Massacre (Annotated), a new play by Tom Jacobson, chronicles the first race riot in Los Angeles history, when 19 Chinese men and boys were lynched by a mob of 500 “people from all nations.” Resonant with more recent racially motivated Los Angeles civil disturbances (the Zoot Suit Riots, the Watts Riots, the Rodney King insurrection), The Chinese Massacre (Annotated) brings to light the remarkable, culturally diverse 19th-century Wild West town that exploded into today’s metropolis. The performance is a fully staged reading produced by Circle X Theatre Company and performed in conjunction with the Los Angeles History Project, a festival dedicated to exploring different aspects of Los Angeles history. This project, which utilizes 18 actors in 40 different roles, is performed for ONE NIGHT ONLY. The event is FREE and open to the public. NO TICKETS NECESSARY. There is ample FREE PARKING at the Autry.
