Takács Quartet with Garrick Ohlsson

About the Show

Combining four distinct musical personalities to bring fresh insights to string quartet repertoire, the Grammy Award-winning Takács Quartet returns to Orange County since its last appearance with pianist Jean-Yves Thibaudet in 2008. The Quartet has been described as having "warmth, exuberance, buoyancy, a teasing subtlety, unanimity of purpose without compromising the individual personalities of each performer, a blossoming tone, and above all, the instinct to play from inside the music.”

The first American to win first prize in the International Frédéric Chopin Piano Competition, Grammy Award-winning master pianist Garrick Ohlsson will take the stage once again since his last appearance with the Society in 2004 with a wonderful collaboration on Shostakovich’s exciting and difficult Piano Quintet. An imposing physical presence at six feet four inches tall, with a reach of an octave and a fifth, Mr. Ohlsson is a pianist with a flawless technique, strong grasp of form, and a clean, non-romanticized style of performing.
