Suburban Blight

Big Red Productions presents Suburban Blight, three dark, shoddy and altogether unpleasant comedies written by A.R. Gurney and directed by Craig Carlisle. Each play revolves around the values that once defined the perfect American family, combining classical myth with theatre of the absurd. Gurney?s plays comment on the upper-middle-class, layering comic and serious elements while, at the same time, finding inventive ways to involve the audience in the action.

The Golden Fleece is a modern spin on the classical myth Medea, told through the eyes of a bickering married couple who have invited their closest friends to see Medea’s golden fleece.

In The Rape of Bunny Stuntz a town hall meeting is disrupted by a mysterious visitor “slouching in the wings” who seems to know a little too much about the meeting’s president.

The Problem begins with a sophisticated college professor trying to reconcile how his wife could have become hugely pregnant without him noticing. The piece goes on to reveal the bizarre set of circumstances that led up to “The Problem.”
