When Anima returns to her graduate program at UCLA after her father’s funeral, her world is radically altered by the sudden breakup with her boyfriend, Alan, and the arrival of her new “lollipop” roommate Christa. Though the two are the epitome of opposites – as Christa’s perky upbeat attitude clashes with Anima’s street smarts and brutal honesty – they eventually come to form a bond. With an edgy, contemporary voice, Scab tells a story punctuated by the appearance of an abusive statue of the Virgin Mary, a macabre plant named Susan, a three-headed, chain-smoking co-ed and other fresh elements.
