New York City
Nathan’s hot dogs, Ebbets Field, the Daily Eagle, Sheepshead Bay, a De Soto 4-door, the Kosciuszko, Podres to Howard – Reese to Hodges, the World Champion Brooklyn Dodgers, 1955. The Falcon Theatre concludes its second subscription season with the world premiere of Jeff Mandels’ Johnny Boy, directed by Arnold Margolin.
This sincere and engaging drama tells the heartrending story of a family’s struggle to raise two teenage boys, one healthy and strong, the other confined to a wheelchair, as they come of age against the backdrop of the historic 1955 Yankees vs. Dodgers World Series. Johnny Boy is an affectionate “snapshot” of a simple, more tranquil time in the life of the city we all cherish, New York, as seen through the eyes of a 1950’s middle-class Jewish family.
