About This Show

Poet and playwright Naomi Wallace takes audiences on a thought-provoking journey through the lives of five lost souls searching for love, redemption and closure. Set during the first gulf war, In the Heart of America follows Remzi and Fairouz Saboura, Palestinian-Arab-Americans from Atlanta, as they struggle to decide to go to war against their own people. Remzi meets his match in Craver Perry, a white bread soldier from the banks of the Kentucky River. Although the official “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy does not yet exist, the consequences of loving someone of the same sex soon come to light. In the mean time, Lue Ming, the spirit of a Vietnamese mother, searches for the soul of Lt. Calley, the ringleader of the massacre at My Lie in 1968. Jamil Chokachi directs.
