Drama Queens from Hell

When a low-budget remake of the classic Billy Wilder film Sunset Boulevard is announced, every desperate older actress in L.A. covets the iconic Norma Desmond role. The writer-director is swamped by audition requests from actresses of all colors, shapes and, as it turns out, genders. The three titular Drama Queens From Hell — an aging TV diva, a former Blaxploitation movie bit player and a pre-op transwoman — will stop at nothing to get the part, competing against one another with no holds barred. Penned by Emmy-winning writer Peter Lefcourt (Desperate Housewives), and directed by Teri Hanauer (Cafe Society, The Way You Look Tonight) this rollicking farce skewers nostalgia, egomania, ageism, affirmative action and anything else in its path.
