With Cleansed playwright Sarah Kane explores the dark sides of a beautiful emotion. Trying to decipher “love,” Tinker experiments with the lives of several individuals in an apparent asylum. Among his subjects are: Grace, who tries to find her brother Graham and, upon discovering he is dead, feels such love for him that she wants to become him; Carl and Rod, two men who love each other but in very different ways; Robin, a young, naive boy who tries to find love but only knows of it in the traditional ways; and the Woman, who becomes the affection for Tinker. While each character has his or her own view of love, Tinker attempts to manipulate their feelings throughout the course of this haunting tale.
