Cesar & Ruben chronicles the life of labor activist, Cesar Chavez, after his death when he meets the late Los Angeles Times reporter, Ruben Salazar in the cafe where Salazar was tragically killed 23 years prior.
The original production — written, produced and directed by Ed Begley, Jr. at the El Portal Theater in 2003 played to sold out audiences and gained critical acclaim. The production won a Nos Otros Award and four Valley Theater Awards while gaining enthusiastic support from the Cesar Chavez Foundation, the United Farm Workers and Chavez’ widow and children.
