Denzel Washington-Led Raisin in the Sun Revival Recoups
Lorraine Hansberry's drama is directed by Tony winner Kenny Leon.
Kenny Leon's Tony Award-winning revival of Lorraine Hansberry's A Raisin in the Sun has recouped its entire capitalization cost, producers have announced. The drama began performances March 8 at Broadway's Barrymore Theatre and officially opened on April 3. It is scheduled to end its run on June 15.
Denzel Washington leads the company as Walter Lee Younger, along with LaTanya Richardson Jackson as Lena Younger, 2014 Tony winner Sophie Okonedo as Ruth Younger, and Anika Noni Rose as Beneatha Younger. The full company includes Stephen McKinley Henderson, David Cromer, Jason Dirden, Sean Patrick Thomas, and Bryce Clyde Jenkins.
Leon first helmed the play in 2004 and received 2014's Best Director of a Play Tony Award for his current production. The creative team is made up of Mark Thompson (scenic design), Ann Roth (costume design), Brian MacDevitt (lighting design), Scott Lehrer (sound design), and Branford Marsalis (music curation).
