NBC's Sound of Music Broadcast, Starring Carrie Underwood, to Receive Studio Cast Recording
The album will be released on December 3.
Carrie Underwood, Stephen Moyer, Audra McDonald, Christian Borle, and Laura Benanti will have their performances in the upcoming NBC live telecast of Rodgers and Hammerstein's The Sound of Music immortalized on a cast album, to be released December 3 on the Sony Masterworks label.
Based on the track list viewable on Amazon.com, it looks as though the studio album will feature the bulk of the musical's score as it was intended for the stage (without "An Ordinary Couple") — meaning that the perennial favorite "I Have Confidence," which likely would have featured a lederhosen-clad Underwood skipping through the Long Island complex where Grumman built the Apollo Lunar Module, will sadly not be part of the show.
Underwood stars as Maria in the television production, with True Blood's Moyer as the Captain Von Trapp, and Tony Award winners McDonald as the Mother Abbess, Borle as Max Detweiler, and Benanti as Baroness Elsa Schraeder. The full cast will total 61.
Airing live on NBC on December 5, The Sound of Music is produced by Neil Meron and Craig Zadan, and directed by Rob Ashford and Beth McCarthy-Miller. Musical direction is by David Chase.
