Eric Idle, Victoria Clark, Marc Kudisch, and Lauren Worsham Set for Oratorio Based on Monty Python's Life of Brian
Ted Sperling will direct the Collegiate Chorale's event at Carnegie Hall.
The Collegiate Chorale has announced that its 2014-15 season will kick off with the New York City Premiere of Eric Idle and John DuPrez's Not the Messiah (He's a Very Naughty Boy), a comic oratorio based on Monty Python's Life of Brian. The event will run December 15-16 at Carnegie Hall. Ted Sperling will conduct and direct.
From the creators of the Broadway musical Spamalot, Not the Messiah is a spoof on Handel's Messiah that features a pastiche of musical styles ranging from pop, country, and Broadway to doo-wop, hip-hop, and Greek chorus.
The cast will include Eric Idle, Victoria Clark, Marc Kudisch, Lauren Worsham, and William Ferguson.
The Collegiate Chorale aims to enrich its audiences through performances of a broad range of vocal music. Founded in 1941, The Chorale has established a reputation for its interpretations of the traditional choral repertoire, vocal works by American composers, and rarely heard operas-in-concert, as well as for commissions and premieres of new works.
