Saved by the Bell's Original Screech, Dustin Diamond, Joins Bayside! The Musical!
The unauthorized parody has partnered with National Lampoon to expand its performance schedule.
Bayside! The Musical!, the unauthorized parody of the popular '90s teen sitcom Saved by the Bell, has partnered with National Lampoon to increase its weekly schedule from three to five shows at off-Broadway's Theatre 80. The change will go into effect beginning August 27 as Dustin Diamond, the show's original Screech, enters the production to play himself.
Bayside! The Musical! opened in September 2013 and is slated to offer performances through December 20, following seven extensions.
"Bayside! The Musical! fits perfectly into both our immediate and future plans for the brand," says Alan Donnes, president of National Lampoon. "The winning formula for National Lampoon is, and always been, a parody of something well known to the masses…Bayside! and these characters are like old friends, which makes the humor very relatable."
The production feature book, music, lyrics, and direction by Bob and Tobly McSmith, the creators of Showgirls! The Musical! The cast currently features Sam Harvey as Zack Morris, Katie Mebaneas Kelly KaPOWski, John Duff as A.C. Slater, April Kidwell as Jessie Spano, Justin Cimino as Samuel "Screech" Powers, Shamira Clark as Lisa Turtle, Amanda Nicholas as Every Other Student at Bayside, and former New York City mayoral candidate Seth Blum as Mr. Belding.
