Classic Stage Company Celebrates Passion Opening Off-Broadway
The Sondheim musical's off-Broadway revival drew guests such as Tony Award winners Brian Stokes Mitchell and Donna McKechnie.
Classic Stage Company's revival of Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine's Passion opened Thursday evening, February 28, followed by a celebration at Pangea on Second Avenue. Passion originally opened on Broadway in 1994.
The musical is directed by Tony Award winner John Doyle and stars Tony Award nominees Melissa Errico (Amour) and Judy Kuhn (Les Miserables) as Clara and Fosca, and Ryan Silverman (The Phantom of the Opera) as Giorgio.
The cast also includes John Antony, Tony Award nominee Stephen Bogardus (Love! Valour! Compassion!), Jeffry Denman (Irving Berlin's White Christmas), Jason Michael Evans, Ken Krugman (Assassins), Amy Justman (Company), Orville Mendoza (Peter and the Starcatcher), Tom Nelis (Enron) , and Will Reynolds (Mamma Mia).
The creative team includes musical direction by Rob Berman, costumes by Ann Hould-Ward, lighting by Jane Cox, sound by Dan Moses Schreier, orchestrations by Jonathan Tunick, music coordination by Seymour Red Press, makeup by Angelina Avallone, hair consulting by J. Jared Janas and Rob Greene, with Adam John Hunter as production manager and Jeff Griffin as managing director.
