UPDATED: Chaplin Star Rob McClure Will Join Tony Danza in Paper Mill's Honeymoon in Vegas
The Jason Robert Brown musical has Broadway plans.
UPDATED: Rob McClure, who recently shot to Broadway stardom in the title role of Chaplin, will be joining the previously announced Tony Danza in Honeymoon in Vegas, the latest musical by Tony Award winner Jason Robert Brown (The Last Five Years), at New Jersey's Paper Mill Playhouse.
"We are thrilled to have Rob McClure join the cast of Honeymoon in Vegas," said a Paper Mill spokesperson in a statement. "Rob is an important part of the Paper Mill family having attended our summer musical theater conservatory, working on our staff, acting as a teacher, and winner of a rising star award and previously featured on our main stage."
In addition to direction by Gary Griffin (The Color Purple), the musical will have choreography by Denis Jones (Legally Blonde) and musical direction by Tom Murray (Nice Work If You Can Get It).
March 12, 2013 - Paper Mill Playhouse will open its 2013-2014 season with the world premiere of the Broadway-bound musical Honeymoon in Vegas, which will run September 26 through October 27. Gary Griffin (The Color Purple) will direct the show, which has music and lyrics by Tony Award winner Jason Robert Brown (Parade) and a book by Andrew Bergman, who was the director and screenwriter of the film of the same name.
Broadway and television favorite Tony Danza (The Iceman Cometh, Who's the Boss) will star as Tommy Kormana, a widowed and crooked gambler who falls for Betsy, a woman who comes to Las Vegas with her longtime boyfriend, Jack, who has finally overcome his fear of marriage. Additional casting and creative team will be announced at a later date.
The next show in the season is Lionel Bart's Oliver, based on the Charles Dickens novel, which will run through the holiday season- , November 21 through December 29. The Other Josh Cohen, which began off- Broadway in 2012, will run February 19, through March 16, 2014 at the Paper Mill. The Other Josh Cohen has book, music, and lyrics by David Rossmer and Steve Rosen.
The Rodgers and Hammerstein classic South Pacific, the story of romance set against the backdrop of an exotic island during World War II, will hit Paper Mill from April 9 through May 4, 2014. South Pacific has music by Richard Rodgers, lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II, and a book by Oscar Hammerstein II and Joshua Logan.
The season will close with Grease, from May 28 through June 29, 2014. A rock-and-roll story of growing up and falling in love, Grease has book, music, and lyrics by Jim Jacobs and Warren Casey.
