Leaving Ruin, based on Jeff Berryman’s novel of the same title, is a 90-minute, two-act dramatization of the warm, humorous and poignant tale of Cyrus Manning, a preacher in the small, middle of nowhere West Texas town of Ruin. Through Cyrus’s humor, lament and faith, Berryman chronicles the battle of a man chasing the will of God. In a time of divine silence Cyrus wrestles with God, hoping to hear that elusive word of blessing and affirmation. The story-telling adventure calls the audience to love and faithfulness as Cyrus learns to trust God’s call and wisdom, though it may be murky and not what he had in mind.
