Picasso’s Closet

About the Show

Theater J presents Picasso’s Closet by Ariel Dorfman. This prismatic biography of the great Pablo Picasso’s time in Vichy, France posits a radical reinterpretation: What if Picasso didn’t die in 1973 but was murdered by the Germans in 1944? And what if it wasn’t Picasso’s body that was murdered, but rather his soul, more insidiously, that was mortally threatened? Such are the stakes faced by the century’s most illustrious artist while living under German occupation.

Ariel Dorfman’s world premiere vividly sets forth the dilemmas encountered by the artist when confronted by terror in this audacious work full of love affairs, professional jealousy and dazzling innovation.
