About This Show

So, what exactly is Irish dance? According to one of the students at the Culkin School of Traditional Irish Dance: “It’s the coolest thing I ever saw!” Allow The Washington Post to illuminate what’s cool about it: “It’s fast, it’s done to zippy accordion and fiddle music and the moves require lightning-fast feet, leaping ability and perfect posture.” Further, when Culkin’s “Irish dance students do their thing–pounding the wooden floor so fast it sounds like machine-gun fire, sproinging so high they seem to defy gravity–it’s clear they are both artists and athletes.” Since 1997, Sean Culkin has dedicated himself to preserving the “cool” tradition of Irish music and dance and passing it on to new generations of dancers. Witness the sheer joy of these young dancers as they perform a slip jig or two, with a few reels sprinkled in, in an enchanting homage to the culture and artistry of Ireland.
