New York City
Among the finest repertory ensembles in Europe, the Maly Theatre is world-renowned for its richly visual productions.Gaudeamus, their award-winning signature production, is a rollicking, foot-stomping, hormonally-loaded theatrical interpretation of life in the Red Army, loosely based on the only book banned by the Gorbachev government. Spectacularly staged on a snowy ground riddled with trapdoors, this is a dizzying carnival of characters, emotions and images: men sucked into snow holes, a candlelit ballet, two lovers on a flying piano playing the opening bars of a Mozart symphony with their toes. This production is presented as part of the du Maurier World Stage Festival.
This production will be performed in Russian with English translation.
