Winner of the 2004 Pulitzer Prize for Drama and the Tony Award for Best Play, this masterful one-man show explores, through the emergance of 40 different characters, the extraordinary true story of Charlotte von Mahlsdorf, an East Berlin transvestite who successfully navigated the two most oppressive regimes of the twentieth century–the Nazis and the Communists–while openly gay and defiantly in drag. But controversy haunted her final years in the form of accusations of complicity with the Soviet secret police, and the facts behind her remearkable survival may never be known.
