About the Show
Austin Shakespeare, in conjunction with the University of Austin, presents Shakespeare’s classic love story,
Romeo and Juliet. Directed by Ann Ciccolella. Two star-crossed lovers — and the stars do seem to conspire against them. Romeo (a Montague) and Juliet (a Capulet). Their families are enmeshed in a feud, but the moment they meet—when Romeo and his friends attend a party at Juliet’s house in disguise—the two fall in love and quickly decide that they must be together. Secretly married and hoping to end the feud, these young loves fall prey to the tumultuous currents surrounding them by their families, their duties, and their own hearts. What will it take to end the feud?
The legendary story will be told in a new way: set in the 1930s with inspiration from the period crime drama “Peaky Blinders.” Accompanying music will be both live and recorded and include music from the mid 20th century as well as the 1930s.
