About This Show

The Playback Workshop Theatre celebrates its first public performance with The Necessary Story. Jacqueline Masei (Artistic Director) and her company of actors and musicians draw upon the stories of audience members as raw material, then – through the spontaneity of skilled improvisation – use music and movement to recreate the moments on stage.

The “necessary story” is simply one that needs to be told – it may come in a dream, over and over until it is finally spoken, or it may be quite ordinary. Stories help to create the meaning of our lives; building bridges of human connection. Sharing stories – whether of triumph or despair, love or revenge, hunger, hatred, or desire – weaves the human experience into the fabric of history; it builds community.

“Whether in public theatres, workshops, educational or clinical settings, Playback Theatre affirms the importance and dignity of personal experience, enables people to view their lives in new ways, and draws people closer as they see their common humanity.” – Jacqueline Masei
