About This Show

The 1999 Pulitzer Prize-winning play, Wit, is the story of Vivian Bearing, Ph.D. An uncompromising scholar and professor of 17th century English poetry, Vivian has been diagnosed with ovarian cancer. Her writings on the great metaphysical poet, John Donne, have unlocked the mysteries of his sonnets for countless students and brought her wide acclaim. But a lifetime dealing with the riddle of our own mortality has left her woefully ill equipped to deal with that same riddle in real life. Scathingly funny and genuinely uplifting, this show is a forceful affirmation of life and the surprising ability of kindness to transform it.
