About This Show

Birdie Blue is preparing her once sweet talking husband Jackson for a journey, while she also bakes a cake for her son’s birthday. But the peace of this domestic scene belies Birdie’s state of mind, and she welcomes us in to tell it like it is-and like it was. Birdie’s life parallels the history of contemporary African-American life, from the fields of Mississippi to the gritty streets of Chicago, and the stories of her life reveal the hardships and joys of the struggles shared in late-20th-century America. This lyrical and yet frank reflection on love, marriage and the passage of time is by Seattle playwright Cheryl L. West.
