Monkey King at Spider Cave

A live shadow play on a giant screen, Monkey King at Spider Cave is an all-ages adventure story based on the Chinese epic Journey to the West. This enduring tale is brought to life by two of the world’s leading shadow theatre companies – San Francisco’s own ShadowLight Productions (directed by Larry Reed) and Taiwan’s The Puppet and its Double Theater. ShadowLight Productions and The Puppet and its Double Theater use giant projected shadows, and an ensemble cast of actors, dancers, puppeteers, and musicians to create a new kind of theater that unites the power and scale of film with the immediacy of live performance. Interacting with hand-painted scenery, the performers create shadow images by moving in a precise choreography to create dream-like moving pictures.
