About This Show

A new play by Australian playwright Kylie Trounson, directed by Susannah Martin and sponsored by the Australian American Chamber of Commerce, with promotional support from Advance, The Man with the September Face is set in a roller-skating rink in the outer suburbs of Melbourne, Australia in the 1980’s. It’s 1985. Jesse is the king of the rink, an artist on wheels. But he’s yearning. He knows there’s something deeper, a better way to be alive. The decadent but vacuous nature of the Eighties aesthetic is a rich platform for investigating our existential artist, Jesse, languishing in a suburban intellectual and political wasteland. In synch with the Berlin Wall, he finally crumbles.  The Eighties are over. Jesse finally finds a way to speak to the universe, but no one is listening.  Fade to grey… The Man with the September Face is a sharp and generous comedy for our times, on roller skates.
