About This Show

It is the Bombay wedding season when ambitious mothers hunt for future brides and grooms to the music and dancing of the HIjra – the crude, rude and lewd cross-dressing men who, according to tradition, have the ability to grant wishes and cast spells. Nil’s mother is intent on finding him a nice docile wife to take back to America, but Nil has other plans. He has fallen in love with a handsome boy named Raf and is determined not to be separated from him. They hatch a plan to smuggle Raj into the country as his wife. Bollywood nights and California days collide as gay marriage and immigration rights loom in this magical comedy drama. Hijra is by Ash Kotak.
