About This Show

Berkeley Repertory Theatre presents popular solo performer Sarah Jones in her latest work, Bridge & Tunnel. Preparing for an April appearance on Broadway, Ms. Jones will rigorously rehearse the show at Berkeley Rep with Artistic Director Tony Taccone, who staged its stunning off-Broadway run as well as her previous hit, Surface Transit, which sold out its extended engagement at Berkeley Rep in 2003.

Audience members will be encouraged to provide feedback to help develop and improve the piece, and an ongoing place for comments will be offered on Berkeley Rep’s website at berkeleyrep.org.

Sarah Jones’ Bridge & Tunnel explores what the American Dream means to 14 characters from 14 different cultures. A Jewish grandmother, a Pakistani accountant, a Chinese mother whose daughter is a lesbian… A young Latina, a hip-hop rapper, a migrant worker confined to a wheelchair… This chorus of voices emanates from across New York City – and Ms. Jones portrays each person with perfect pitch. During its successful run at New York’s 45 Bleecker Street Theatre, Bridge & Tunnel broke the off-Broadway box-office record for single-day sales. Now the show is Broadway-bound, opening at New York’s Circle on the Square in April 2005.
