The children of San Diego get to explore the meaning of “home” in the world premiere of West of The 5, La Jolla Playhouse’s 2006 POP Tour production. Written by Sunil Kuruvilla, and helmed by acclaimed director Jackson Gay, it tells the story of Manny, a young boy who moves from San Diego’s Barrio Logan to a different part of town, on the other side of the 5 freeway. Though she believes the move is for the better, Manny’s mother is sad to be leaving, and, for the first time ever, Manny sees her cry. Over time he comes to understand what it means to miss home and what it takes to make a new one.
