DNA New Work Series

About This Show

La Jolla Playhouse’s DNA New Work Series is a two-week period of workshops and readings of new works that allows playwrights and directors the opportunity to develop a script. It’s a rare chance for theatre-lovers to be a part of a new work in its earliest stages of development.

How to Be a Rock Critic – Manic. Impossibly creative. Dead of an overdose at 33. Lester Bangs was arguably America’s greatest rock critic and the first to anoint the “punk” movement. But as the rebel ethos of the ’70s gave way to the corporate pop of the ’80s, his faith was shattered. Adapted from Bangs’ own words, this solo play sheds light on a pioneering and revolutionary voice in music.
