About This Show

This world-premiere play, based on true events, will be directed by Lucie Tiberghien and is written by Michael Benjamin Washington (The Wiz, Memphis), who also leads the cast in his role as civil rights activist Bayard Rustin. Blueprints to Freedom is a coproduction with Kansas City Repertory Theatre.

Blueprints takes inspiration from the sweltering political and racial heat of 1963 when Bayard Rustin – the brilliant proponent of nonviolent civil disobedience – is assigned to orchestrate an unprecedented march for jobs and freedom. Exiled from the civil rights movement by both internal and external forces, Rustin grapples with his last chance for professional restoration and spiritual redemption.
