About this show

Andy Warhol, Sigur Ros, Roy Lichtenstein, Radiohead, Robert Rauschenberg and John Cage. These are just some of the major icons with whom Merce Cunningham collaborated in order to create his avant-garde dances inspired by anthropology, the I-Ching and Zen Buddhism. According to the wishes of the late Merce Cunningham, the legacy tour will be the last opportunity to see the iconic dance company perform before they disband. Celebrated as Diaghilev's successor, Merce Cunningham "reinvented dance … the elegance, simplicity and force of his work are unique … he taught us something new and powerful" (Mikhail Baryshnikov). "Merce spent more than 50 years creating dances of relentless rigor, works so pure in concept and immaculate in execution that they can take your breath away," wrote The Times. He was American modern dance's equivalent of Nijinsky: the long neck, the animal intensity, the amazing leap". (The New York Times)
