About This Show

Two actors and two grand pianos star in this unique theatre event: a comedy with music about two would-be classical pianists growing up at the keyboards. Ted and Richard both have dreams about becoming world-class pianists, but first must run through the gauntlet of a musical education – pedantic teachers, pushy parents, and piano-nerd rivalries – while learning to play everything from Bach to Elton John. However, as adulthood and the realities of what it takes to be a professional musician loom near, they discover their own limitations, and understand the true nature of all those lessons and the music that they love. 2 Pianos, 4 Hands is a rollicking comic valentine to the joy of music that strikes a chord with anyone who’s ever dreamed of making it big.

Originally created and performed by Canadian actors Ted Dykstra and Richard Greenblatt, 2 Pianos, 4 Hands is a semi-autobiographical account of Dykstra and Greenblatt’s experiences as children. The two underwent serious musical training until their late teens, when they both dropped piano and focused on the theatre. This production features Mark Anders as Ted and Carl J. Danielsen as Richard.
