About This Show

The Brick Playhouse presents the world premieres of four one-act plays. The Second Annual One-Act Festival features four one-act plays in repertory, including the Winners of the 2002 Albert Benzwei Playwriting Award, “Rain Later” by Lawrence Goodman and “Cuckoo” by Toby Mulford, plus “The Silver River” by Alex Wilkie and “Attention at the Faire Ground” by Colin Crag Wolfe.

Program A includes Lawrence Goldman’s “Rain Later,” directed by Alexis Brie Wildau, and Colin Crag Wolfe’s “Attention at the Faire Ground,” directed by Mark Cofta. “Rain Later,” a psychological thriller, ponders what really happened to Harry and Joan’s son. They’re not supposed to talk about it, but can’t resist a horrifying game of one-upmanship. “Attention at the Faire Ground” is an eerie dark comedy that reveals two couples in crisis: Dale starts a new job while Francis tries to paint, and Samantha tries to define her life through tarot cards and homemaking while Scott searches for freedom. The couples encounter an ethereal soldier who forces them to make critical choices.

Program B features Toby Mulford’s “Cuckoo” and Alex Wilkie’s “The Silver River,” directed by T. Anthony Marotta. The comedy “Cuckoo” reveals the complex relationship between a cranky shut-in, his no-nonsense daughter, and the opportunistic young woman who delivers his groceries. “The Silver River” is a timely drama that explores the moral dilemma many young men struggled with during the Vietnam War: be drafted, or cross the river into Canada.
