About This Show

Madame Ranyevskaya is the head of a once wealthy and honored Russian family who are about to lose their ancestral estate, including a vast and beautiful cherry orchard. As spring gives way to summer and sentiment threatens reason, the family must find their footing in a Russia turned upside down. On the brink of losing the beloved orchard, time is a luxury they no longer can afford.

The Cherry Orchard, Anton Chekhov’s final masterpiece, showcases the writer’s rich sensitivity to human nature in this portrait of an aristocratic Russian family in transition at the turn of the 20th century. Bonnie J. Monte directs.

Laila Robins gives a superlative performance in the Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey’s excellent production of Chekhov’s classic drama.
