Children’s Theatre of Charlotte presents the Heart to Heart Theatre Ensemble’s production of Twist & Shout. Every nine seconds a woman in the United States is battered by her partner. Statistics show that as many as one in four teenagers will be in an abusive relationship by the time they graduate from high school. Dating violence cuts across all boundaries of race, gender, religion, and socio-economic class.
Founded by The Shelter For Battered Women, the Heart to Heart Theatre Ensemble was created to help the growing number of teenagers involved in violent dating relationships. Twist & Shout, based loosely on one teenager’s true story, was conceived and written by Joanna Gerdy. Weaving together improvisational drama, factual information, drama and movement, the Heart To Heart cast – made up of talented local high school students – addresses the subtleties and dynamics involved in violent relationships.
