Live in the Lobby Jams: Double Bill featuring Surf Goldblum & Mind Open

About This Show

Surf Goldblum features Patchogue’s Chris P. Cauley, who first appeared Live in the Lobby on drums with My Last Band to open our third season in 2007. That performance was captured in our CD, Live in the Lobby Volume One, as was his solo acoustic “Where Are You Going Now.” Since then, this multi-instrumentalist has worked on his own projects and as a producer and drummer for several local acts. Now, he is back behind the drum kit with Surf Goldblum, described as “an experimental jazz slacker rock trio.” They are a power trio in a traditional sense, but that is where the tradition ends. These psychonauts are forever searching. Sometimes through a jam, other times in a set. Only one thing is certain. With the Surf Goldblum, you either ride the wave or you end up eating sand. I really don’t think they care.

Mind Open will make you forget everything you thought you knew about Jam Bands. Instrumental and jazz based, with a touch of rock, Brazilian, and psychedelic grooves, the Mind Open experience is one you have to see to believe. The bulk of the material the band plays is contributed by Vibist Chris Covais and Guitarist Andrew Ahr. The rest? Rare grooves from obscure groovy jazz-funk, rock, and psych records. Hugo Lopez on drums and Chris Elsner on bass round out this amazing quartet and their great original sound. Make sure you see Mind Open spread peace, love, and good vibrations through the medium of music, Live in the Lobby.
