the whole world has suddenly disappeared addresses performance as the site of a uniquely shared and uncontrollable event. Choreographer Levi Gonzalez establishes a series of solos that exist simultaneously within the same place, competing for attention. The work explores how intended meaning inevitable takes a back seat to the unpredictable power of a live experience, searching out a physical state that is messy, passionate, and idiosyncratic. Ever the optimist, Gonzalez endeavors to coalesce these seemingly disparate states of being into something that approaches unity, albeit an unconventional and tenuous accord.
