The Jefferson-Grisman Project will tap into a 40+ year repertoire and legacy of two iconic Artists whose roots stem back to the heritage folk and bluegrass Artists of the 1950s and whose music has been a primary influence in the nascent 'jamband' scene of the past two decades. Grisman will be performing with Jefferson Starship and will highlight some of the material that made him a hero of several genre including 'Friend of the Devil', 'Mill Valley Waltz', 'Pigeon Roost' among other songs from his DAWG songbook as well as new material form the Jefferson Starship's Tree of Liberty release upon which he appears. Jefferson's Tree of Liberty, Jefferson Starship's first album of the 21st Century, sounds the clarion call of protest and social conscience - harkening back to founder and leader Paul Kantner's Woodstock-era Jefferson Airplane anthems. Kantner remains at the helm of Jefferson Starship on the group's new album for Jefferson's Tree of Liberty, which finds them, breaking new ground by digging deep into the classic folk tradition. In addition to Kantner, whose 12-string acoustic guitar graces many selections (he plays banjo on a handful), key group members on the set include multi-instrumentalist David Freiberg, co-founder of another legendary Bay Area band, Quicksilver Messenger Service, that shared many a Fillmore bill with Jefferson Airplane and Grateful Dead; vocalist Cathy Richardson, former star of the hit Broadway production Love, Janis and not too long ago a mainstay of Chicago's rock scene; longtime lead guitarist Slick Aguilar (who began with Kantner in 1985's KBC Band), keyboardist/bassist Chris Smith (a Jefferson Starship stalwart since 1998) and drummer Donny Baldwin.
