About This Show

Lillian created Primordial from her interviews, over the last two years, with ~50 birthing people of varied races, ages, and genders. Giving birth seems to be the single most incredible thing the human body is capable of. How come we don’t talk about it all the time?

The stories in the play run the gamut of human pain and joy. These are just a few of them: one woman, a quadriplegic – pregnant with twins, blacked out several times during pregnancy; another woman had an orgasm while giving birth; and a transgender person struggled with body dysmorphia while pregnant.
In times of division, it’s important to remember we all have one thing in common. It’s so obvious, and yet so overlooked, and it’s simply that we are alive. Seriously, we all were birthed by another human. What?! Primordial celebrates this innate connection and asks the question, why don’t we explore this miraculous event all the time? This is a play for right now – for celebrating community.
Whatever someone’s political views, the thesis of Primordial is – we need to talk, America.
